Road to Microsoft Professional Program Certificate in Data Science

Hey everyone! This is my first post here and as the title suggests, I am currently taking up the Microsoft Professional Program for Data Science. For those who don’t understand Data Science, if I’m going to explain it in my own words, I’d say it is making the most out of the data available around you! Data Scientists aren’t just developers; they’re also great storytellers and visualizers. Basically, data scientists are an amalgam of various skills– including statistics and even art!

I, myself, aspire to be a Data Scientist. I just love looking at and analyzing huge amount of data and find out what can be discovered from those. It’s like treasure hunting with all the data as your map, and finding gold bars with other precious gems in a treasure chest is just so fulfilling. I believe what I currently know about college statistics and machine learning aren’t enough. There’s more to Data Science so as a first step, I’m taking the said program.

Microsoft Professional Program for Data Science includes the following courses:

  • Data Science Orientation
  • Query Relational Data
  • Analyze and Visualize Data
    • Excel (and/or)
    • PowerBI
  • Understand Statistics
  • Explore Data with Code
    • R (and/or)
    • Python
  • Understand Core Data Science Concepts
  • Understand Machine Learning
  • Use Code to Manipulate and Model Data
    • R (and/or)
    • Python
  • Applied Data Science
  • Final Project

I chose the April-June 2017 course run (with the Final Project to be done in July). I will be publishing posts for every course to give some tips and reflections of what I’ve learned and maybe I could help aspiring Data Scientists, like myself, in their journey.
